A vampire weekend

Last weekend, Kim and I were treated to a trip to Derby (well Wolverhampton really) to see Vampire Weekend (the band, not the twilight convention). It was fantastic to get on the train, see some of the country, dance to amazing live music, including support act Ratatat. The weekend was made even more perfect by a dumping of snow overnight in Derby. I didn’t believe it until Kim drew the curtains and revealed the snow in all it’s magnificence. AMAZING! We bundled in the car round to the Griffith’s for tiger bread french toast and good conversation. Exactly what we needed.

The bacon wasn’t mine.

There's something in the lips

Kylie mentioned I didn’t show any of Kim’s birthday purchases so here is a photo of him looking mighty fine in new jeans and a shirt on the way to OCC this morning. Also the top in this post was part of the birthday extravaganza. Our boxes arrived this week and we unpacked hoodie after hoodie for Kim, so the wardrobe balance is well and truly restored. He has been making up songs about how good it is to have more than 5 items of clothing which usually go something like this “it’s freaking awesome to have my clothes, awesome…” and so on.

We headed out to Kidlington for another delicious sunday lunch. Adult mac & cheese (sans the wine), sticky toffee pudding with squirty cream and lots of fun! Tessa and Kim both received Thomas the Tank Engine Etchasketch portraits from Helena and she really captured something about Kim’s lips. Flowerpot people, more Sylvanian Families and play-dough. A great afternoon.

Double Rainbow Guy has officially made my night. “Full on double rainbow all the way across the sky.”

Puff Pastry Massacre

The left-over puff pastry in the fridge was calling out to be turned into some delicious jam tarts, but something went wrong ha HA! I didn’t roll out the pastry enough and they exploded, spilling their jam and lattices everywhere. It was hilarious.

Work that Moue

I would cut hair for Salmon & Spinach pie followed by Mars Bar cake any night of the week. Goooood trade! David did actually like his haircut despite looking a little like he wants to kill me in the after shot. He was perfecting his model moue, very professional.

Bonfire Nighty Night

I have a love/hate thing with Guy Fawkes (as I’m used to calling it in NZ). Explosions/ fire/beautiful colours etc but I always feel for small children and pets who can’t distinguish the celebration from danger. The neighbours were letting off some impressive fireworks and it felt like they just might land on us. Perhaps this adds to the excitement. David tried to provide some context to the ritual of Bonfire Night but came out of his research more confused than when he began. It’s about parliament, explosives, anti-establishment, burning a ‘guy’ (I had to leave for this part, it was too gruesome) and scapegoats.

However, I loved taking photos on Saturday and just being part of this community.

This oven was hanging out on the side of the road on our way home. Chillaxing.
