Bonfire Nighty Night

I have a love/hate thing with Guy Fawkes (as I’m used to calling it in NZ). Explosions/ fire/beautiful colours etc but I always feel for small children and pets who can’t distinguish the celebration from danger. The neighbours were letting off some impressive fireworks and it felt like they just might land on us. Perhaps this adds to the excitement. David tried to provide some context to the ritual of Bonfire Night but came out of his research more confused than when he began. It’s about parliament, explosives, anti-establishment, burning a ‘guy’ (I had to leave for this part, it was too gruesome) and scapegoats.

However, I loved taking photos on Saturday and just being part of this community.

This oven was hanging out on the side of the road on our way home. Chillaxing.
